After being separated for four years, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jeffrey DeYoung will finally see his brother, “Chicken,” again.
DeYoung, 23, gave the black Labrador, actually named Cena, the moniker and called him his brother when the two worked by each other’s side for about six months from 2009 to 2010 during explosive-searching service in Afghanistan.
“I probably won’t sleep tonight,” DeYoung, a Grand Rapids native, said on Wednesday, June 4, of his anticipation to see his partner.
Now that 6-year-old Cena has completed his military service, DeYoung will adopt him. They will reunite at Detroit Metro Airport on Thursday morning.
“Hopefully, he’ll remember it,” DeYoung said of the name Chicken.
Though they hadn’t seen each other for four years, DeYoung and his old friend seem to get along perfectly — and judging from the MLive video above, he’s not the only one in the family who’s fallen in love with Cena.
“Because of you, I got to have them,” DeYoung told Cena as his two young daughters made friends with the dog.
