Words matter…

“The biggest problems we’re facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that’s what I intend to reverse when I am president of the United States of America.” — Senator Barak Obama, March 31, 2008

  1. Will: Since Jersey has been back, he has been like a blue-hair from Bradenton driving with their LeSabre on cruise control, doing nothing but hitting mailboxes, never even approaching going down the road properly.

He's like a parody of himself on this return, not yet rising above knee-jerk blind partisanship and easily refuted, ill considered statements.

And in this one? He actually makes a spelling flame against what might be the only non-insulting, never used by Limbaugh. of spelling “Barack' as 'Barak'.

It's like calling Truman “Trueman” or Buchanan “Buchonan”. … totally meaningless.

  2. Remember one of Barakc Obama's other really embarassing quotations… that it is unpatriotic and irresponsible to add $4 trillion to the nation's debt?

Then Obama went and chose to add about twice that.

(I've spelled Obama's first name above as “Barakc” to throw Jersey McJones a bone. He can then make a valid point that I mispelled the President's name, while he completely whiffs everything else he says. Jersey's a good guy and deserves a break, doesn't he?)

  3. I haven't been phoning it in guys. I'm the same. Just feeling very cynical these days, and your critiques of me only reinforce that.

The reply dmarks, was obviously not just grammar policing. I never do that anyway. It was a nit on the post.

Obama is not worse than Bush, dmarks. No honest person could say that. C'mon man. Get real. Pick a number, any number. And the last administration saw over the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression, and, ironically, were it not for the New Deal and the Great Society, it would have been even worse! 2/3rd's of the “stimulus,” as naive rightwing sycophants call it, was just for cleaning up the mess. Most of the money for the “bail-outs” is long since paid back.

Man, you are one far out dude, dmarks. I don;t know how you can believe something that is so patently untrue.

CI, I assumed you tend to vote Republican. The vast majority of people who hold similar values do too. As it is for me with the Dems, the GOP is just the better of the two choices. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry?

  4. Jersey: In some things. Obama is better. Like gay rights, for sure. In so many things. he is worse. His policies forced millions out of the labor force, and they will never return. Objectively it can be measured that he has added debt at a significantly higher rate than Bush. Obama has quite measurably accelerated the drug war. Obama has kept is in the countries Bush has sent us to, and Obama has taken us into even MORE countries.

The list goes on and on. Like civil liberties and spying.

The purely wasteful massive load of corporate welfare called “the stimulus” was paid back? Sorry, not true. There's tens of billions in outright gifts to Detroit automakers that won't ever return. The people that swindled the taxpayers out of billions in Soylindra, etc in the stimulus got off scot-free. The list goes on and on and on.

None of this is “far out”, Jersey. And so much of what Obama is worse than Bush on often turns out to be left/liberal issues: war overseas, the war on drugs, civil liberties, black poverty and more.

By the way, on a “nit”, most leftists call the wasteful handouts to corporations “the stimulus” also. It's a fair abbreviation.

And to repeat, it is quite honest to say that Obama is worse than Bush on so many levels. The facts are overwhelming. I would be a liar if I denied this.

Where do you get this stuff, dmarks?

Take the bailout. In the end, it cost the taxpayer about 12 billion. But the jobs saved alone brought in 3 times that in federal tax revenue. You just don't understand the issue.

  6. That's more than 12 billion of pure waste. The auto industry and jobs would have been saved by conventional bankruptcy proceedings… with zero cost to taxpayers.

You have bought into the scare tactics put out by corrupt corporatists who cry like Chicken Little of the problems that will happen if the government does not waste tax money on gifts to big business.

As for the rest, such as new countries invaded by Obama and the increase in the drug war, I suggest checking the facts instead of flying by the seat of your pants…

…the way you seem to always say outrageous things and never support them.

  7. CI: Does “militarily intruded” work for you then? Then it starts to look like semantic somersaults.

Anyway, Obama undeniable increased US military operations beyond the situation/trends left by Bush: increasing operations (and US casualties) in Afghanistan, diving into a new war in Iraq (with troops too) when the Bush time frame had the US out, and Obama getting the US military involved in countries Bush never had us in.

When presented with these facts, Jersey only insults and says “???”. Yeah “phoning it in” is a fair assessment. He's not made one valid point here, our even tried.

  8. dmarks, I agree that semantic gymnastics are overkill….but “invaded” connotes a military enterprise on the scale of Iraq/Afghanistan. Obama has more quietly inserted our presence into Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Uganda and others.

Jersey's reply of “???” has me confused as well.

  9. How does “intervened” work, then?

Yeah with his “???”, Jersey comes across like he is saying “I disagree, but for no sound or rational reason”.

Hee is being lazy and careless. I too was surprised at how Obama has increased the “war on drugs” but my reaction has been education, not denial.

  10. CI, this is totally off the topic but I have to ask you. Are you familiar with a kid named, Eric Dungey? Rivals.com has him rated as the #1 high school (Lakeridge High in Lake Oswego, Oregon) quarterback in Oregon and he just committed to Syracuse (go East, young man). It sounds like the Orange may have gotten a good one and was wondering if had heard of him.

You do have a habit of retorting to facts that shatter your worldview instead of learning from them.

Homework, Jersey. Compare the amount of debt Bush added to the amount Obama added, and will have added by the time he leaves office.

If it's not close to twice as much (i.e much worse), I will eat my hat.

You cracked me up with that one. And you sliced to ribbons Jersey's fact-free bluster.

Obama has been a disaster for this nation and the world, but he sure took good care of his fatcat corporate cronies, didn't he?

Meanwhile black unemployment is still in double digits.

Employing Jersey's vernacular, only a retarded moronic idiot would defend Obama, The Worst President in the History of the United States.

You said: “Obama has been a disaster for this nation and the world, but he sure took good care of his fatcat corporate cronies, didn't he?”

Indeed. I find so many on the left actually proud of how Wall Street has flourished under Obama. Needless to say, they won't mention Main Street or the poor. The record is terrible there. The defenders of Obama's poor track record don't want us to compare the soaring black unemployment (especially for teens) on his watch to such things as the strong growth in the black middle class under Ronald Reagan.

This is not surprising,is it? Considering the massive handouts to corporations under Obama (far worse than any previous President), and his job-killing “stimulus” which focused on making overpaid public “servants” richer instead of getting people employed

  14. I don't know where Jersey gets some of this stuff.

” 2/3rd's of the “stimulus,” as naive rightwing sycophants call it,”

I did a quick check, and the Obama stimulus is usually called the “stimulus” on the Daily Kos. For Jersey to be correct, this would mean that Daily Kos is all naive rightwing sycophants “

This aside from the fact that the stimulus cost the US millions of jobs.
