Another shooting…and the bloody shirt waves on

The gun control cabal wastes no time dancing in the still warm blood, with their meme’s of the NRA as a “terrorist organization” and a self-righteous determination to “do something”……all before anybody knows any facts; such as in many previous occasions, where not a law on the books would stop the tragedy.

Humans can be violent. The tool they use does not determine their twisted action. But that’s the easy lazy argument by the cabal. Instead of confronting their true goal, a repeal of the 2A…they skulk like cowards in the night, with perfidious and deceitful designs of undermining civil liberty. They have built a boogeyman in the form of the NRA and a catalog of false narratives and scaremongering ignorance, since they’re too cowed by the armed intelligentsia to confront the liberty-protecting populace face on.

So in an insult to the grieving families and friends of Roseburg, Oregon……the script gets dusted off again, and trotted out by the teary-eyed clowns…in a never-ending circus act.

  1. Leftwing liberty-gobbling proglodytes never let a crisis go to waste. This is a gross insult to the families.

A responsible president who had a reverence for our constitution would direct our national dialog in a productive direction.

A common thread in almost all these shootings is mental illness, and a related or unrelated corollary, strange behavior by the shooters that was detected by friends and family.

So, how do we address this? How do we take away firearms from such people and get them on some kind of list so they cannot purchase more?

Just as important, if someone is put on such a list because of a mental issue, how do they get off the list if it was a temporary episode and a competent mental health professional gives them a clean bill of health?

    What say you?

    • Clearly I agree. I find it interesting that this is an issue that should transcend politics…and in some ways it does. I know several gun owners who respect and defend the sanctity of the 2A…yet are left in their politics. I haven’t really encountered anyone on the right who is anti-gun….which of course is anti-civil liberty.

The mental illness factor is a sticky wicket. I look at it through the lens of PTSD, and how knee-jerk responses to gun violence would affect the civil liberties of those who suffer from PTSD….and….the effect such measures would have on veterans seeking diagnosis and treatment.

I found an interesting proposal on another gun blog the other day….I’m going to post the gist of it either later today or tomorrow. I’d be very interested to see what folks like you….and folks like Jersey, think of it.

    • I’m concerned with lists and so forth too. But when you look at the numbers, you see it would be smart if we had some kind of systematic way of getting arms from people temporarily – perhaps some simple flat-time period, so it’s “fair,” so to speak. It seems to me, however, that the federal gov’t must be involved and above all as it is with all other civil rights. The Constitution clears states the entire purpose of the Second Amendment is to maintain a well-regulated militia, and if the “militia” today” is widely considered simply all armed citizens, than that entire sector must be well-regulated, lest it devolve into guns all over the streets, crazies and criminals easily getting their hands on firearms, families shooting themselves and each other, like we have today.

      • Wow. A reasonable response from Jersey…

I’m glad to see we’re all on the same page, and I share your concern, CI, as I expressed in my comment above. I’m interested in your future blog post on the issue.

      • I agree…..for Jersey…that was a pretty rational response. However….

I’m not sure what you’re talking about here. Getting arms from whom?

The Constitution clears states the entire purpose of the Second Amendment is to maintain a well-regulated militia….

Negative. As can be easily seen in reading the entirety of assembled writings of the Founders, regarding not only the 2A, but the right of self defense writ large…..there is no other meaning of this amendment, than the right of the People, to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
