“Deep State”…….Right?

So, the Secret Service is instructed by Congress to retain text messages regarding the cult uprising on January 6th. The Secret Service then conducts a ‘data migration’ after those instructions……apparently without backup up said data, which is what everyone else on the planet does when migrating data between platforms.

And now only seems to have one (1) text message to turn over.

All those who bloviate breathlessly about the nefarious ‘Deep State’ (definition apparently not required)……..are…….silent.

Are the Praetorians in the service of the deposed Emperor? Isn’t that ‘Deep State’?

Abortion Hypocrisy

By a nearly four-to-one margin, Idaho Republicans at the state party’s convention in Twin Falls rejected an amendment to the party platform on Saturday that would have provided an exception for a mother who has an abortion to safe her life.

Herndon argued the exception should not be included because over the past nearly 50 years since the U.S. Supreme Court made the original Roe v. Wade ruling, exceptions made in the law eroded progress for the anti-abortion movement. Link

So……these geniuses want to criminalize an abortion where the life of the mother is at stake. An act that, because the mother may die, may also result in the death of the unborn child. Not very ‘pro-life’

It was bad enough that they wanted to force [usually young] women to carry the child of rape or incest…they’re now doubling down.

And Idaho isn’t the only state where the radical extremists are making such moves.

After making exactly the right call on the Bruen case, and decidedly less so in Dobbs (I am not optimistic that this Court will protect an inherent Right to privacy with regard to other cases specifically cited by Clarence Thomas)………the Court too a decided faceplant with KENNEDY v. BREMERTON SCHOOL DISTRICT.

There are plenty of places to read the history of the case and it’s appeals, so I won’t bother with that. But I oppose this ruling. Not only am I a fervent defender of religious liberty, but I am a fervent proponent of the tenet of Separation of Church and State.

Decades spent in the Armed Forces, where I couldn’t possibly count the number of times I was a captive audience for Chaplain (or Layman) led prayer. This began with a mandatory church service early in Basic Training, where we were all marched to the Harmony Church Chapel (Fort Benning, GA), and required to sit through the service, on the weak premise, that the command “just wanted to ensure that we all knew where the chapel was”. Uh huh.

It is unprofessional and unethical to allow an adult in a leadership role, where the entire audience is also captive, to lead children in a religious ceremony, rite or prayer. No fan really of Sotomayor, but I do agree with her dissent:

“Today, the Court once again weakens the backstop. It elevates one individual’s interest in personal religious exercise, in the exact time and place of that individual’s choosing, over society’s interest in protecting the separation between church and state, eroding the protections for religious liberty for all.”

“Today’s decision is particularly misguided because it elevates the religious rights of a school official, who voluntarily accepted public employment and the limits that public employment entails, over those of his students, who are required to attend school and who this Court has long recognized are particularly vulnerable and deserving of protection.”

I eagerly await when an Islamic coach fires up a prayer at mid-field, and the reaction of all who support this ruling.

MTG Says: Joining the Military = “throwing your life away”

Noted Veteran and military expert…oh wait. Noted bombastic oxygen thief, snowflake and generic idiot Marjorie Taylor Greene took to Lou Dobb’s podcast [because, of course] and mewled:

Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has said joining the military is like “throwing your life away” due to President Joe Biden‘s foreign policies.

Speaking to former Fox News host Lou Dobbs‘ podcast on April 9, Greene listed other reasons why people should not join the military, including the vaccine mandate and “woke” training.

Greene made the remarks after Dobbs questioned the “quality of people” that are in the Defense Department in Biden’s administration and suggested that the military was struggling to attract new recruits because people have “seen the way they’re treated.”Newsweek

The remainder of the article has similar indefensible tripe. I didn’t even include her reference to ‘satanic‘. There is much wrong with this nation currently, and her type among the reasons.

Much like “back the blue” was shown to be lie on January 6th 2021, the Right generally has as little regard as the Left, for the Armed Forces of this nation. They both instead, use the institution, and those who serve their country, as convenient props.

Why Pot Legalization Benefits the 2A

An article from the Libertarian site Based Politics, posted in it’s entirety.

The potential legalization of marijuana has become a very hot topic of late, with the federal government making some pro-legalization noises. Legalization has been a core tenant of libertarianism for years, of course, so most libertarians are thrilled.

However, the truth is that legalization may well yield significant benefits for the Second Amendment.

You see, under federal law, it’s illegal for anyone who uses a schedule 1 controlled substance to also possess a firearm. Also under current federal law, guess what’s classified as a schedule 1 controlled substance?

That’s right, marijuana.

While numerous states have legalized pot to some degree, that doesn’t negate federal law on the matter.

Many may not see the big deal. After all, most gun laws seem to be enforced at the state and local levels, and if they legalize marijuana, surely they won’t worry about federal regulations.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

In 2017, Honolulu police cross-referenced medical marijuana permits with gun permits, then demanded those with both to turn in their weapons.

The same thing happened in 2018 in Pennsylvania.

In 2019, a Maine man filed a lawsuit to challenge the law after he was convicted.

So yeah, this is an issue — and it’s a serious one. Especially for people who may be suffering, yet refuse to use this particular treatment out of fear they’ll face prosecution which, if found guilty, would strip them of their gun rights for life.

Yet federal legislation legalizing marijuana would change all that, depending on how the law was structured. Even rescheduling the drug to schedule 2 would likely eliminate many of the problems. Schedule 2 drugs are tightly controlled but are eligible to be prescribed by a physician. Further, though, using those drugs lawfully isn’t grounds for prosecution.

The best case is outright legalization. At this point, we have loads of data showing that legalization does not lead to more crimes or even more use of heavier drugs, so there’s no reason not to legalize it. Yet, at a minimum, we need medical legalization.

Then, those who have marijuana cards won’t have to worry about someone sending them a letter demanding their guns simply because they’re getting medically treated.

And since gun owners will be free to use it to treat any number of conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD, it’s ultimately going to be a good thing for them.

Frankly, this should have happened long, long ago.

Yes, a long time ago. At the very least, when the 21st Amendment was ratified.

Weapons Grade Stupidity

Today’s award goes to Eric Trump. Not someone I would normally have the time of day for, excepting his monumentally absurd statement below. Eric of course, being widely viewed as the least intellectually literate spawn of his father, our very own fanboy of authoritarians and murderous tyrants.

There has been an empty and absurd narrative in certain sectors of the political spectrum, that the Obama Administration only gave Ukraine “blankets” when it disbursed military, economic aid and security assistance training to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, State Border Guard Service, and National Guard. To be fair, John McCain may have been the first to coin this nonsense, but he’s allegedly a “RINO” or some such absurdity, I’m not sure he counts, right??

Of course, while there may indeed have been blankets in the mix, our tax dollars at that time went to heavy engineering equipment, body armor, advanced radios, patrol boats, UAVs, up-armored HMMWV’s, counter-mortar radars, night vision devices and medical supplies……yet “blankets” is the rallying cry of the simps. All of the above, I would add…..was provided without strings to dig up political dirt on anyone’s opponent here in the U.S.

Fast forward to yesterday….after the Biden Administration has provided [among other items] Stinger antiaircraft missiles and Javelin Antiarmor missiles [as did the Trump Administration with Javelins], Eric Trump takes to Fox News and utters “By the way, my father had a great relationship with Putin [of course he did]. All the while, he’s sending thousands of javelin missiles to Ukraine. Isn’t that really amazing? I mean, Biden has no relationship with Putin and he’s literally sending blankets to Ukraine.”

Yes, a sock puppet for the Putin Wing of the GOP literally used the word literally to float the narrative that the current Administration is sending “blankets” to Ukraine. I suppose they either thought they were so clever the first go around, they’d try it on again for size….or they’ve just run out of intellectually inferior rhetoric to use in a public debate that they’re so clearly on the wrong side of.

So, this all goes back to my rock solid assessment of our elite political class….either they’re stupid – or they think you’re stupid.

“Legitimate Political Discourse”??

The RNC recently issued a statement in their ‘censure’ of two GOP congress-folk who dared to do what they think is right: RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Cheney and Kinzinger “chose to join Nancy Pelosi in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens who engaged in legitimate political discourse that had nothing to do with violence at the Capitol.”

It seems to me that everyone currently being ‘persecuted’ is for exactly that – violence at the Capitol. But fine…..Republicans have now [rhetorically] exonerated any time the Left engages in assault and vandalism in similar circumstances, as legitimate political discourse. The events of January 6th also expose the absurdity of their claims of “back the blue”

“Partisan Free Passes”

An excellent observation by “D” at Liberty’sQuill, posted almost in it’s entirety. I recommend many of D’s other pieces as well.

Today political emotion is almost a virtue, and self-awareness is in short supply. A substantial majority of Americans regularly excuse or defend worrisome views, troubling behaviors, and double standards – but only when their political compatriots are in the wrong. For example, politicians often appear to exchange scripts when power shifts in Congress. Borrowing and spending was a capital idea last year, but now it is irresponsible; a disturbing exercise of federal authority is dangerous today, but last year a similar action represented a common-sense solution to an intractable problem.

Not so long ago the capitol police officer who shot Ashli Babbitt inadvertently pulled back the curtain on another example of this bipartisan hypocrisy. The officer in question contended he made the right choice, and many progressive web warriors agree. Yet even in a progressive digital utopia this wholly rational view is mixed with exaggerations and illiberal generalizations – mental shortcuts that are often wrongly associated with conservative Americans. In a similar manner, many conservatives complained about law enforcement’s tentative response to rioting and looting during the spring and summer of 2020. But after Ashli Babbitt was shot conservative affection for decisive law enforcement action suddenly declined. Invariably political emotionalism leads to hypocrisy, and occasionally even political oppression.

If America is going to have a peaceful and stable political future, politically engaged Americans must resolve to hold their ideological compatriots to the same standard they have established for their political opponents. Absent this act of self-honesty, partisan anger and chronic “misrepresentations” will imperil the freedom, happiness, and security of this great country.

Partisan hypocrisy is never not fascinating to me….

Donald Trump, Savior of…….Religion?

As a devout Agnostic, I will never claim to know the mind of a religious fundamentalist, but I do know bullshit when I see it.

The former POTUS appeared on some televangelists show on Thursday and made the following, bizarre statement:

So nobody has done more for Christianity or for evangelicals or for religion itself than I have[underline mine]

Trump referenced his ‘support for Israel’, which has been standard operating procedure for every Administration for at least the past several decades. He also, falsely [because, of course] claimed that he repealed the Johnson Amendment; a canard that he has trotted out again and again.

So I’m genuinely curious…..if there are any of the religious sort who even read this minor blog…….what exactly has Trump done, that would warrant even a fraction of the statement above? I’m not talking about making religious folk feel better about themselves or their vote….but actual, tangible actions.
